When Your Soulmate Hurts You:

Sometimes, the hardest heartbreak comes from the person you thought would never hurt you. You love them deeply, trust them completely, and believe you have finally found your soulmate –  until reality shows you a different side of the person you thought you knew. This is my story about betrayal, heartbreak, attachment, and learning that sometimes choosing yourself means walking away from the person you love most.

Dear Diary,

I know how you feel about the “love of your life.”

When you thought this was your “soulmate” — finally, you could let yourself fall, be vulnerable, and be the real you without feeling judged by anyone around you. But then reality hit.

Because love is sometimes so unpredictable.

And yes, it is beautiful that we can love deeply. But obviously, that deep love can turn into your hardest heartbreak or the best love life you could ever imagine.

I have been going through something like that,
and even now, I am still healing from him.

Because the difference was that I felt like myself with him.

He felt like himself with me.

And maybe that is what made everything so much harder.

That feeling when you believe in him.
When you trust his words.
When you genuinely think that the person you love would never hurt you.

But behind your back, he is betraying you.

And suddenly, you start questioning yourself.

You doubt yourself.

You ask yourself:

“Am I not good enough?”

But clearly, it was never about me.

It was about him.

I have been cheated on…  And going back to that person because I was too scared to lose him taught me one of the biggest lessons of my life

.

Leaving wasn’t easy.

Actually, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done.

But my body was telling me that I needed to go.

I had a fever.
My pH was constantly changing.
My body felt different.

Something was clearly wrong with me.

Looking back, I feel like my body was giving me warning signals.

Warning signals to leave the person I loved most.

Trust is the key to a healthy relationship.

And that is what makes this kind of heartbreak so painful.

Deep down, you can know that someone feels like your person, that you see a future with them, that you love them more than you can explain — and still know that you have to leave.

I poured my soul into this relationship. And I still grieve it.

Because it feels like I lost the most important person in my life, and there was nothing I could do about it because, ultimately, this decision was not up to me.

I didn’t stop loving him.

I stopped choosing a relationship that was hurting me.

And there is a huge difference.

It has been over six months since I left.

And honestly?

Sometimes it still catches my breath. Sometimes the memories come back so strongly that they completely take over for a moment.

I am not going to lie –  I still think about him almost every day.

But I am also 100% happier knowing that I don’t have to be scared anymore.

I don’t have to question where he is.

I don’t have to wonder who he is talking to.

I don’t have to question whether his words are true.

I don’t have to live with that constant feeling in my stomach.

And even though part of me still misses him, another part of me knows exactly why I left.

I still ask myself, “Why wasn’t I enough?”

But then I have to remind myself:

I am more than this.

When I first found out that I had been cheated on, I remember sitting alone in my bathroom, having a panic attack.

I was completely broken.

And in the end, I was sleeping in his arms again.

Why?

Because at that time, he felt like the only person who could heal me.

The only person who could calm me down.

The only person who could make me feel loved.

But looking back now, I realize how insane that dynamic was.

The person who hurt me the most was also the person I believed could heal me the most.

At that time.

The  person who causes your pain becomes the person you run to for comfort.

And that can make leaving feel almost impossible.

Can A Cheater Change?

This is the question I asked myself so many times.

Can he change?

Maybe.

He might change one day.

He might become a better person for someone else. He might eventually understand what he did. He might learn from his mistakes.

But I don’t know. And I don’t need to know anymore.

Because whether he changes or not is no longer my responsibility.

Maybe he will change for the right person.

Maybe he will change for the right reasons.

But I guess that person wasn’t me. And this isn’t about me being “not enough.”

Because deep down, I know I gave everything I had.

I was caring. I was understanding,I was chill. I was myself with him.I loved him. I trusted him. I gave him chances.

I gave him parts of myself that I don’t give to everyone.

And if that wasn’t enough for him to be honest and loyal, then maybe he simply wasn’t my soulmate.

The scary part about real love is how quickly we can become blinded by it.

Even after someone cheats on you, you can still think about the good memories.

You remember the nights you laughed together. The moments you felt safe.

The hugs.

The conversations.

The little things.

You remember who they were when everything was good. And sometimes, you forget what actually happened.

We hold onto the good memories and ignore the reality that caused us to leave.

But maybe that is where we have to be honest with ourselves.

Sometimes It’s Attachment, Not Love

Maybe this is one of the hardest lessons I have had to learn:

Sometimes what keeps us attached isn’t love anymore.

It is attachment.

It is familiarity.

It is the fear of starting over.

It is the fear that we will never find someone who makes us feel the same way again.

It is missing the version of the relationship that existed before everything fell apart.

And I think we have to learn to separate love from attachment.

Because choosing yourself doesn’t mean you never loved them.

It means you finally decided that your own peace matters too.

I chose my self-worth.

I chose my peace.

I chose a life where I don’t have to constantly question whether I am being loved honestly.

And yes, I still grieve.

I still think about him.

I still have moments where I wonder what could have been.

But I also know that I deserve a relationship where love doesn’t come with fear. Where trust isn’t something I have to beg for. Where loyalty isn’t something I have to question.
Where I can be myself without constantly wondering if I am enough.

So, dear diary…

Maybe he was the love of my life at one point. Maybe I really did believe he was my soulmate. Maybe a part of me will always love the person I thought he was.

But I am learning that someone can be important to your story without being meant to stay in your life forever.

And maybe that is what healing really is.

Not forgetting him.

Not pretending I never loved him.

But accepting that I loved someone deeply — and still choosing myself.

Because I deserve more than a love that makes me question my worth.

And so do you.

And sometimes the hardest heartbreak is also
the moment you finally come back to yourself.
